Vijayakumar Velu is a Research Scientist in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Emory University. He received his BSc degree in Zoology from the University of Madras, Chennai, and obtained his Masterâ€™s Degree in Microbiology from the Madurai Kamaraj University. In 2005, he was awarded PhD in Medical Microbiology from University of Madras where he focused his research on various clinical trials of newly developed Hepatitis B vaccines from India. In April 2005, he joined as a postdoctoral fellow and focused on his HIV research particularly on the development of therapeutic vaccines for HIV/AIDS. Currently he is a junior faculty member in the department and his research focuses on developing novel treatment strategies that boost the immune response during chronic infection and therapeutic vaccination. Furthermore, he dedicates himself to find novel inhibitory receptors on immune cells that will lead to a therapeutic tool for treating chronic viral infections such as Hepatitis B virus, Hepatitis C virus, Human immunodeficiency virus and cancers at Emory Vaccine Center, Atlanta.
Dr. Byrareddy received his PhD from National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences and JNCASR Bangalore and his postdoctoral training from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute & Harvard Medical School, Boston. Currently, he is a Faculty Member at the Emory University School of Medicine, Emory University. He is a recipient of several young investigator awards including Indian National Science Academy Young Scientist Medal. He is a member of the Society of Clinical and Translational Science and Global Young Academy. His current research interests focused on understanding biology of HIV transmission and to develop an effective vaccine against HIV. He has published extensively in various international peer-reviewed journals.
Lakshmanan Jagannathan obtained his Bachelors degree in Biochemistry from University of Madras in 2003, Chennai and Masters Degree in Advanced Biochemistry from A.C Tech, Department of Biochemistry from University of Madras, and Chennai in 2005. He has joined AU-KBC Research Center in June 2008 and registered as a Ph.D student since July, 2009. Prior to joining the AU-KBC Research Center he has worked for 3 years in Contract Research Organization and held project manager position. His Research interests include glycoconjugates mediated host-pathogen interaction, synthetic biology and metabolic engineering. The theme of his PhD training program was Glycobiology of Mycobacerium tuberculosis infection. While doing PhD, he has been trained various Bioinformatics tools and software; Functional annotation tools such as BLAST, COG, ProDom, CDD, InterProScan, CLUSTAL, Blocks and STRING, Protein Structure Prediction, Molecular docking tools and software such as Modeller, Phyre, AutoDock, Vina, iGEMDOCK and PyMol. He has strong hands on experience in Cell biology, Microbiology, Molecular biology including cloning, protein expression and purification. Also the added value is his experience in proteomics techniques. Further he has carried out cloning, expression, and protein purification of Mycobacterial glycosyltransferase, glycosyl hydrolase genes using His-Tag, GST-Tag protein expression systems in E. coli. Apart from his PhD work, he was involved in other projects including Identification of DNA regulatory S/MAR elements in Giardia lamblia, and Bioinformatics prediction of genes involved Alcohol/Hyperglycemia mediated liver damage, through which he has published 4 Internationally peer reviewed papers and one Book chapter.
Dr. SHANKAR Esaki Muthu received his PhD from Dr. ALMPG Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chennai and subsequently underwent postdoctoral training at the Molecular Virology Facility of the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine, LinkÃ¶pings University School of Medicine in Sweden. He is currently a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology (Faculty of Medicine), University of Malaya Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He is a professional member of the American Society of Microbiology (from 2007) and Swedish Society for Virology (from 2010). He has more than 60 international publications to his credit, and is also acting as referee for various international journals. Adding to his credit, he acts as a co-instructor, mentor and a trainer for Medical Microbiology (Medical Virology, Medical Parasitology, Medical Mycology, Medical Bacteriology), Immunology, Biotechnology, Cell Biology. He has been working on the immunology of dendritic cells and T cells in HIV-1 infection, and continues to explore the immune evasion strategies adopted by certain persistently infecting viruses leading to chronic infections.
Madavan Vasudevan obtained his Masters Degree in Microbiology from Madurai Kamarajar University following which he worked as a consultant and scientist in Bioinformatics department in Genotypic technology. Now he has started his own firm named Bionivid Technology .Bionivid is focused on the development of data mining and database analysis tools and applications to aid researchers in life science related fields in accelerating their R&D activities. He is an expert in Microarray and genotyping technology.
Dr.VigneshRam works as an Assistant Lab Manager / Assistant Professor of Microbiology of Infectious Diseases Laboratory, YRG CARE. He is also the Principal Investigator / Laboratory Director of Mycobacteriology laboratory of ACTG/ IMPAACT/HVTN Regional TB Diagnostic Laboratory (RTBDL). He heads the Microbiology and Core-Immunology divisions of the Infectious Diseases Laboratory which provides laboratory services to YRG CARE clinic and also supports several clinical trials funded by DAIDS (NIH). His experience covers research in T cell based immunological studies related to HIV/TB co-infection. He have attended and presented many research works in various national and international conferences related to HIV. He has authored more than 22 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
